the ladies, Patrick is a mainstay of the Walford community.

Trouble
is always just round the corner (shop) for Patrick Trueman. Former
owner of Walford's Minute Mart, Patrick is as much the go-to guy for
words of wisdom as he is for snacks and soap powder.

Born
in Trinidad, Patrick came to the UK in the 1950s to find work. He was
subjected to racism and, during the 1958 Notting Hill race riots, was
convicted of assault. Later Patrick married Audrey after she allegedly
fell pregnant with his son, Paul. In 1970, they had a second child,
Anthony but Patrick left Audrey and the children shortly after,
scandalous behaviour!
Patrick arrived in Walford for Audrey's funeral, and saw his sons again after decades apart. After a while the Trueman brothers accept Patrick but Paul became suspicious and secretly performed a DNA test, where it was revealed that Paul is not Patrick's biological son! However, despite all the upset, Patrick and Paul managed to maintain a father-son relationship.
Patrick became close friends with Jim Branning who helped him win the heart of Yolande with love letters after Patrick has a holiday romance with. As a result, Yolande moved to Walford and married Patrick. Paul started to deal drugs for Andy Hunter which ultimately lead to his death as he tried to double-cross him... bad move Paul. Patrick was devastated to lose his son and began a vendetta against Andy.
For a time, Patrick rented the car-lot and hired Pat to do the bookkeeping. Patrick and Pat began a casual affair, which Yolande discovered and she threatened to leave, but Patrick persuaded her to try and rebuild their marriage. Yolande remained, but her relationship with Patrick was never quite the same, and they spilt.
Since Yolande's departure Patrick's taken in 'daughter' Denise, and her (diminished) flock. He's no saint, but Patrick did find the strength to forgive the man who killed his fiancée.
He's also been a good friend to Dot and Jim. Since Jim moved into the nursing home, Patrick misses his favourite drinking buddy. But Denise and her sister were always on hand to join him for a swift drink or two - 'yeeah man' *snaps fingers*. However, Patrick's age has caught up with him, and after a nasty fall, he is now unable to look after himself... can Denise and Kim step up to look after him?
