Tamwar Masood
Super-geek Tamwar looked
like he was bound for the ivory towers of academia, but luckily he
decided to stay in Walford to lend his blend of sardonic put-downs and
dry wit to every occasion...
First appearance: | 1st October 2007 |
Address: | 41 Albert Square |
Occupation: | Market Inspector |
His
failure to get into Oxbridge was a massive blow to overbearing mum
Zainab, who was using her son's academic achievements as a stick to beat
arch-rival Denise Johnson. However, he earned her forgiveness by
rescuing the family (temporarily) from financial ruin and became the
proud owner of the Argee Bhajee... until brother Syed ran it into the
ground and the baliffs were called!
Really...?Tamwar Masood
- Allergies: Cats
- Likes: Sci-Fi and stand-up comedy
- Dislikes: Football
- Signature dish: Aloo gobi
- Favourite food: Fish and chips
Unlike
his handsome brother Syed, nerdy Tamwar didn’t have much luck in love
when the family first arrived on The Square. He made a pass at Syed's
lady Amira, and rather than the saucy smacker he craved, got a smack
across the face instead.
While his cheek was still stinging, Afia came along. She saw past his awkward nerdy-ness, romance blossomed and she became his wife.
But outside forces have pushed Tamwar and Afia apart. Her father Yusef drove a wedge through Tamwar's family, and nearly destroyed his mother. Yusef died in a fire, in which Tamwar received serious burns.
Tamwar and Afia's relationship never quite recovered. Ultimately, they realised that they wanted different things from life - Afia left on her moped for travel and adventure, Tamwar stayed at home.
Zainab's leaving was a massive blow to Tamwar, and finding out about his Dad's near miss with the fragrant Ayehsa made Tamwar feel even angrier and isolated. Masood encouraged Tamwar to get a job as Market Inspector to give him confidence and to raise money to finally send Tamwar off to University... but does he command enough authority on the market to make a success of his role?

Played by Himesh Patel
- Playing Tamwar Masood is Himesh's first professional acting job
- On the morning of his EastEnders audition, he had to sit his GCSE science exam. Luckily, he passed both!
- His interests include playing football and creative writing, particularly scripts. He wrote episode 2 of series 3 of E20.
- Himesh's sister once spotted Nitin Ganatra (Masood Ahmed) in a restaurant and got his autograph for Himesh. On hearing that Himesh wanted to be an actor, Nitin wrote a note hoping that they would work together some day. Little did he know that Himesh would one day play his on-screen son!
